New talent Auditions @ London's Danceworks for NJTA Kids.

November 1, 2017

On 1st October 2017 NJTA Kids held our first round of auditions in London, in our search for talented young performers ages 5-21.

We started the day with our younger performers who took part in a tailor made two hour drama workshop, taken by director, writer and drama teacher, Reese-Lee Ellis.  Our young performers got to know each other and were made to feel comfortable with a series of games and improvisations before going onto a more structured approach.

The young performers were then challenged with scripted duologues and monologues.

They were all given different characters and we looked for their interpretation, confidence, diction and projection. We were really impressed with the acting ability shown with little rehearsal time.

Dance Workshop

Our Drama workshop was followed by a one hour dance audition, this was taken by professional dancer, singer & choreographer Lyndsay-Nicole Smith.  She put the kids through their paces with an energetic warm up, corner work and a fast paced commercial routine.  We were looking for good technique, energy and performance value.

We ended our young performers workshop with private singing auditions.  We asked all our auditionees to prepare two contrasting songs of their choice.  We were looking for musicality, song interpretation, performance value and vocal capabilities.

14 & Over Auditions

Our afternoon consisted of auditioning our performers ages 14-18. They again attended a two hour drama workshop.  This was run in a similar way to our morning audition, but was age appropriate and we were similarly impressed with the performance level, especially during the scripted work.  Those aged 16+ were asked to prepare a monologue and we enjoyed watching the rehearsed performances, we were throughly entertained and amazed by the level of maturity of some of the pieces. Our dancers and singers were asked to prepare pieces to show off their versatility and capabilities and we were kept entertained with their performances throughout the afternoon.
